Denver started out as a gold-mining town, but today the area’s natural beauty is its greatest treasure. Within the city, seniors can visit the Botanical Garden, which features seasonal attractions, such as the fall corn maze. Meanwhile, the Roosevelt and Arapaho National Forests are within driving distance for a day trip with family members and have breathtaking Rocky Mountain views.

More than 716,000 people live in the Mile-High City, and 11.8% of them are aged 65 or over. Those who love wintry outdoor scenes may appreciate the city’s abundant snowfall. Luckily, RTD buses offer half-rate fair for seniors, giving seniors the option to ride rather than drive when roads are slick.

Genworth’s Cost of Care Survey 2018 lists the average cost of care in Denver as $4,700, which is 20% higher than the state and U.S. monthly averages. This price differential, combined with the city’s overall higher cost of living, might be a point of consideration for those moving here from other areas.
