In 2005, Hurricane Katrina forced MSS to reevaluate the property and services it would continue to provide on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The vision of a new retirement community, Seashore Highlands, was born. Seashore Highlands would be located further inland and would expand on MSS desire to provide additional senior living options for the elders of the region.

Financial Information For Mississippi Seniors
Mississippis income tax system is based on three tax brackets with rates of 3%, 4%, and 5%. The state allows for the same deductions as does the IRS.
Mississippis state sales tax is 7%, except in the city of Jackson, Mississippis capital, which collects an additional 1%, making the total sales tax 8% in Jackson. Taxes are collected on sales of tangible personal property and certain services in the state, including: installation or repair of HVAC units, bowling fees, car-washing, electricians, furniture repair, hotels, motels, laundering, dry cleaning, parking lots, parking garages, television services, woodworking, and carpentry. Tangible personal property includes most physical goods such as furniture and clothing, but there are exceptions.
Mississippi is one of only two states in the nation that taxes all food all the full sales tax rate, including groceries and prepared food. In addition, there are additional restaurant taxes in certain areas of the state. However, one item that is not taxed that is often especially important to senior citizens is prescription drugs.
There is neither an inheritance tax nor an estate tax in the state of Mississippi. The state also does not tax Social Security earnings, retirement account withdrawals or any pension earnings, whether private or public.

Gulf Coast Health Care Dissolves Amid Bankruptcy
Six months after Gulf Coast Health Care filed for bankruptcy, the skilled nursing operator with 28 facilities in Florida, Georgia and Mississippi announced the company has since dissolved.
Gulf Coast Health Care was a leading provider in the long term industry serving in the Southeastern United States. Having operated numerous skilled nursing and assisted living centers with a team of over 6,000 associates, Gulf Coast Health Care was dissolved as of April 1, 2022, the companys read. Gulf Coast previously leased 24 facilities from certain indirect affiliates and subsidiaries of Omega Healthcare Investors, Inc. and four facilities from certain indirect affiliates and subsidiaries of Eagle Arc Partners LLC formerly known as Blue Mountain Holdings, court documents stated.
Multiple operators have divided up the centers, according to the post.
Late last month, Gulf Coast asked a bankruptcy judge to approve its Chapter 11 plan saying it would be the best possible result.

One of the issues of contention surrounding Gulf Coasts proposed Chapter 11 plan involves parties with litigation against the operator.
Gulf Coast first filed for bankruptcy back in October, citing significant fiscal challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
