The Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe assisted living facility fetched $20 million last month.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly listed the seller Sunrise Village Tuckahoe as Chartwell Retirement Residences. The seller was in fact Tennessee-based Brookdale Senior Living. The story has been updated.

One of the owners of Short Pump Town Center has taken another bite out of Henrico County, except this time its not in the retail sector.

Last month an entity tied to Brookfield Properties purchased the Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe assisted living facility at 12401 Gayton Road for $20 million.

Sunrise Villa spans 234,000 square feet and offers assisted living along with Alzheimers and hospice care. The facility is run by McLean-based Sunrise Senior Living, which also operates similar homes in Bon Air and on North Parham Road in the city.

A Sunrise spokeswoman confirmed the sale and said that Sunrise will continue to manage operations at Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe.

The senior care facility is now owned by New York-based Brookfield Properties, whose holdings also include two local malls, an office building and many of the apartments along Tobacco Row.

Brookfield did not respond to requests for comment.

The retirement home was initially built in 1986 and a 136,000-square-foot expansion was tacked on in 2008. The county most recently assessed the property at $23.3 million.

Blue Ridge Senior Living Of Richmond

The Westmont at Short Pump Community

When choosing a facility to entrust w/your family member, there are a lot of factors to consider. So far, Blue Ridge is #1 on our list! The accommodations are nice, the building is very clean. They are taking the necessary precautions to ensure the residents & staff are as safe as possible during the Pandemic. The staff there is pleasant, professional & very welcoming. During our tour they went above & beyond to make us feel comfortable. I think weve found the perfect place for my aunt & uncle.

I worked freelance for the facility and it was a wonderful experience. The kitchen staff was very kind and hardworking. I really enjoyed creating meals for the residents and the professionalism all the employees possessed that I encountered. Kacherra Smith who is the Resident and Family liaison at the facility was extremely helpful if I had any questions pertaining to anything. I consistently witnessed staff going above and beyond to help each other from every department. Great place to work!

I am genuinely surprised by all off the 1 star reviews because my experience was wonderful. The facilities are clean and well-maintained and the staff is super friendly and helpful. They have a wide variety of activites for the residents and appear the genuinely enjoy spending time with the elderly.
