The Cost Of Assisted Living In Florida
Seniorly 2021 data shows that the average monthly cost of an assisted living community in Florida is $3,299. The national average is $4,057. Obviously, the average Florida pricing is substantially less than the national average: this may be due to Floridas cost of living, taxes, and perhaps supply vs demand, since Florida is such a popular state to retire to. Assisted living communities can provide the peace of mind that comes from not worrying about home maintenance, chores, or errands, as well as help with personal grooming, eating, and other daily activities seniors might have trouble with. However, if your loved one requires nursing care, or has diagnosed Alzheimer’s or dementia that has progressed to a certain point, they might need a skilled nursing facility/home health care, or memory care community instead. These communities might cost more in Florida than assisted living facilities, but the important thing is that your loved ones needs are cared for in order to provide them with the best quality of life.

Both types of lodging require lockable doors, full-use kitchens, a minimum of square footage, and accessibility features for people with reduced visual and functional capacity.
Private assisted living apartments must provide at least 80 square feet per resident. Multiple-occupancy rooms can accommodate no more than two residents and must have a minimum of 60 square feet of usable space per person. If a room is multiple-occupancy, at least 35 feet of living and dining space must also be provided per resident. Bathrooms may be shared, but at least one lavatory and one bathing area must be provided per every six and eight residents, respectively. In facilities licensed to provide Extended Congregate Care, bathing areas can only be shared by up to four occupants.

+ How Do You Know When A Senior Needs Assisted Living
Knowing when is the right time to move into an assisted living facility or care community can be difficult. Ultimately, its a personal decision that requires significant consideration. Many people decide it is time to transition to a senior community when they can no longer live a life fully independently.
It can be helpful to understand the differences among senior care facilities so that you can make an informed decision on living arrangements.
Independent Living: An independent living facility is ideal for adults typically over the age of 55-years-old who do not need any assistance with the activities of daily living. For example, if your loved one is still able to cook meals for themselves, use the restroom independently, and generally get around without any assistance, this type of facility would most likely be a good fit. Additionally, these communities tend to not offer medical care or medical care staff.
Assisted Living: An assisted living facility is a great option for elderly individuals who are looking for an alternative housing option and need some assistance with daily tasks. This type of assistance can include getting dressed, cooking meals, using the restroom, and bathing. Similar to independent living, these communities tend to not offer medical care or medical staff.

The Transition Into Assisted Living In Florida
In the process of determining whether assisted living care is right for your loved one, he or she will also need to be assessed by a healthcare provider to determine what their needs are and what type of facility could best meet their needs. If an individual needs 24-hour residential care or does not need assistance with ADLs, an assisted living community would not be appropriate for such an individual.
If an ALF is the right place for your loved one, be sure to take some time to find out what is included in the facilities you are considering. Think about whether your loved one would do best in a large or small facility. And finally, be sure your loved one will be able to access the resources and services that they need and want at a cost they can afford.
