My loved one has had no complaints about this community and has really been enjoying everything it has to offer. She seems to be very impressed with the meals and some of the great amenities . I do wish that she would get more involved in some of the activities they have to offer instead of being in her room so often. Overall I am pleased and would recommend it to anyone.
I don’t know much about assisted living facilities… my sisters and I got lucky and we were recommended this one by a knowledgeable person for our mother. Our mom has been there two months and she really likes it. It is not just a very clean and friendly place. There are activities all week long. Mom has found a sense of community with her peers. Visits from her children, friends, and other relatives of course have helped her in this transition. She knows she has simply moved to a more supportive place for her physical limitations, but her connection to others has not changed. In fact due to her safer environment, it has improved! I just visited her last weekend. The staff are enthusiastic and supportive. The residents represent all types of people and all functioning levels. Quite a few are over a 100 years old. One guy who is over a hundred “winters” there then goes back to work as a construction manager back East. This facility is located in a very nice area. It is on the border of Beverly Hills and West LA and the cost is quite reasonable.

Brookdale Gardens of Tarzana, Belmont Village in Encino and The Watermark at Beverly Hills have a particularly Jewish flavor. Shabbat is a regular feature, COVID or not. There’s usually matzo ball soup on the Friday menu and bagels and lox on offer at breakfast time. Special attention is paid to the Jewish holidays. At this time of year, Passover is observed and families invited to celebrate along with residents. Of interest to those with an intellectual bent are the classes that some facilities offer on subjects such as Torah study, Jewish history and Jewish culture.
While I have yet to find a strictly Kosher board and care home, there are a number of board and care houses in Los Angeles owned by observant Jews. In these homes, they follow Kosher dietary rules like separating meat from dairy but the houses themselves do not serve koshered food. Of course, no pork or shellfish is on offer. In some instances, the proprietor will bring her own Kosher food from home for a resident but this is rare. I have had clients order in food for their loved one to supplement from some of the Kosher restaurants in the Pico/Robertson neighborhood.

We chose Beverly Hills Carmel because it was just very warm the residents, the staff and even the people that come clean the rooms are very sweet and welcoming. The meals are all home cooked and really taste good. The provide laundry, room cleaning, snacks, tea, library and just about anything else you are looking for. It is located on a kind of busy street but the trees block it out. The community has a central courtyard that provides a place to relax. The community has plenty of windows and provides lots of lighting. There is a sitting area in the community that has a really big window that you can just sit and look at trees. He chose to opt for the option that has two rooms together so he set it up as a living room in one and his bedroom in the other. He can open and close his window as he chooses. We feel like he is not in danger of hurting himself and they really give them the freedom to do as they want while still keeping an eye on him. The dining room and just everything is so pretty its kind of like being on a cruise. You dont feel like it is a place you put someone in and feel bad about in fact we actually like to visit. We are very happy with Beverly Hills Carmel and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Seniors needing a higher level of care or a secured memory facility live in one of the Jewish Home’s skilled nursing buildings.
The Jewish Home also operates two upscale continuing care retirement communities , Fountainview Gonda at Eisenberg Village in Reseda and Fountainview Gonda Westside in Playa Vista.
