Charter Senior Living has named Sue Johnson as Executive Director and Amy Klosterman as Director of Marketing and Sales for Charter Senior Living of Oak Openings.

Sue Johnson joins the Charter Senior Living family after a move to the area from Cleveland, Ohio. As a licensed administrator, Sue has held executive director roles at several senior living communities in Ohio, New Jersey, and California. She also was a Regional Vice President of Operations in Ohio for a company that provided memory loss rehabilitative services. Sue has received numerous recognitions and awards for areas in community leadership, sales, and marketing. A veteran of the US Navy, Sue received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Long Term Care Administration from Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio.

Charter Senior Living has revealed plans to develop a new $8.6 million senior living community in Sylvania, Ohio.
Charter Senior Living at Oak Openings, developed by EBS Sylvania LLC, will be a 48,882-square-foot community offering a combination of 52 assisted living and memory care suites.
Designed by M+A Architects, the one-story project will feature a variety of amenities, including a full-service kitchen, billiards room, bistro, fitness room, salon, spa room, living rooms, activity areas, as well as, exterior courtyards and patios.
The community is expected to be completed in November 2018. The general contractor is The Douglas Co.

Based on our feedback from the region, we knew that senior services, especially memory care services, in the Sylvania community were significant, therefore we developed the new senior living resource with a large balance of memory care services and programming to answer that need, said Keven J. Bennema, CEO of Charter Senior Living.
The new Garden Oaks community will bring the premier Alzheimers disease, dementia, and memory loss specialists to the area, said Joy Wegand, Charter Senior Livings Memory Care Specialist. Charters devoted care team and state-of-the-art residences are curated specifically with memory care in mind.

Oak Openings was intentionally kept to a small number of units only 24 assisted living residences and 36 memory support units to keep with the boutique hospitality atmosphere and allow for an individualistic focus and intimate feel.
Atypical to senior living environments, the building layout offers a front and back of house, designed to amplify hospitality and differentiate residents from facility functions. Support functions, including administration and housekeeping, have their own back-of-house entry and circulation, creating space without sacrificing the experience for residents.
This self-contained circulation core design was the catalyst to take the institutional feel out of the center, heightening the boutique experience of the space for residents. Interior finishes were selected to create layers of distinction. Contrasts between walls and flooring colors allow residents with low vision to better navigate the facility. Based on research conducted on lighting levels for seniors, the lights selected provide brighter levels necessary for aged eyes to see better.
