How Is Five Star Senior Living Protecting And Supporting Residents

Coral Oaks Senior Living Virtual Tour

Its been a challenging few months for everyone. We quickly learned at the very beginning of the pandemic to redouble our infection control efforts and stock up on personal protective equipment in order to divert the arrival of COVID-19 in as many Five Star communities as possible.

Weve creatively nurtured the physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual well-being of our residents with reimagined programs, room service with a smile, Zoom calls, sunshine visits and so much more. Ageility therapists have helped maximize residents independence and facilitated healthy lifestyles. One creative therapist, knowing how her client loves to dance, prescribed a daily dose of The Quarantine Shuffle. You are sure to smile while watching.

Our attentive caregivers have also been keenly aware of the mental stress on residents. Thats why, since May, residents in our assisted living and independent living neighborhoods have had access to licensed or credentialed counselors by phone or videoconference 24/7. Whether they fear for their familys safety or their own, or are suffering from feelings of isolation and hopelessness, theyve had access to Employee & Family Resources for up to three, 60-minute, confidential counseling sessions at no cost. Weve extended this important, complimentary service through

Northwood Manor Indoor Snowball Fight

Turns out you dont need real snow to have a snowball fight, just imagination, lots of paper and a group of residents ready to have fun and let loose. Thats the idea behind Northwood Manors annual indoor snowball fight, a new holiday tradition created by executive director John Clark. Clark says the snowball fight always leads to a roomful of laughter and childhood memories bringing smiles to residents faces. All it takes is a bunch of crinkled up white paper to look like snowballs and getting residents seated in a circle before the fight begins. No holding back here. Clark says residents have a blast tossing the paper snowballs at anybody and everybody, including him. The snowball fight may be a simple and short activity on the holiday calendar, but Clark says seeing the joy in his residents faces as they embrace an entirely new holiday tradition is what makes it so special.

Our residents come with different traditions and experiences in life, and this is a new beginning and opportunity, he says. Thats why we strive to keep the Christmas spirit alive with new traditions and fun things to do.

Treasure Hunts Indoor Snowball Fights At Five Star Senior Living New Traditions Make The Holidays The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

From waking up early to watch the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade to staying up late on Christmas Eve baking cookies for Santa, holiday traditions are special times for celebrating and reconnecting with loved ones. As we age, though, it can be more difficult to manage the heavy load of hosting holiday traditions youve carried on for decades. Passing the torch to the next generation is bittersweet, but that doesnt mean you cant still experience the joy of taking part in holiday traditions, old and new, at a senior living community.

Though some holiday traditionslike Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas carolshave remained constant, many others evolved over time, sometimes sparking new traditions entirely like Secret Santa gift exchanges and adding your voice to an acapella recording of Deck the Halls. These new holiday traditions, though unfamiliar at first, can spark renewed feelings of comfort and joy during the holiday season and soon become beloved rituals you look forward to year after year. Here are four unique holiday traditions celebrated in some of our Five Star Senior Living communities that residents have embraced over the years.

Five Star Residents Likely To Be Among The Nations First Older Adults To Receive Covid

The coronavirus pandemic has posed unprecedented challenges that our Five Star team members, clients, residents and their families have faced head-on. The first COVID-19 vaccine has received Emergency Use Authorization by the Food and Drug Administration , and a second vaccine is awaiting EUA. Now that vaccinations have begun in the United States, Five Star residents and team members will likely be among the first to take advantage of the federal plan prioritizing long-term care residents and workers. For Five Star, that includes memory care, assisted living and staff in every one of our communities — at no cost to them. Independent living residents may also be in one of the first waves of vaccination recipients as directed by their state guidelines. Read more…

Assisted Living In Palm Harbor Florida

Oak Harbour Juno Beach FL home for sale

Palm Harbor gives seniors 14 assisted living facilities to choose from in sizes starting at 4 residents and climbing to 128 residents in a large assisted living resort community. Most of these assisted living facilities are in the medium to large size range, but for seniors looking for a small boutique home, there are certainly some that are home to less than 10 seniors. There are those that offer memory care and at least one, Bayou Gardens, that invites seniors to have their pet dog or cat live with them. The average price for Palm Harbor assisted living facilities comes in at about $3,600 each month, making them about $500 less than similar facilities elsewhere in Florida. However, Palm Harbor assisted living facilities are nearly $150 more expensive, on average, when compared to other similar communities in Pinellas county.

Celebrating Life Liberty And The Pursuit Of Togetherness

Its truly inspiring to witness our residents and families celebrating the gradual reopening of our communities and watch them embrace the precautions required to achieve a successful reopening. While we know that COVID-19 still lurks outside our doors, Five Star Senior Living is carefully loosening restrictions to give residents and families the liberty to be together again.

Meanwhile, residents are having fun in lots of ways. A favorite example is how our Myrtle Beach Manor residents cruised into a reopening lunch in their dining room with a Ticket to Paradise event. After receiving their tickets, residents boarded a virtual cruise ship. There were photo ops on the starboard side, delicious all-they-could-eat food, a Broadway show and socially distanced fellowship with friends. It was great seeing some of the folks not encountered since March, says one resident, who shared her joy at just being able to wave and say hi! to friends and neighbors again.

Most recently, residents of Five Stars Morningside of Cleveland voted right in the community. Lifestyle360 director, Janie Wingo, made arrangements with the county voting commission. One more way these valued citizens stayed safe while exercising their citizenship and freedom. Not even a pandemic could keep them from voting safely!

From all of us at Five Star, thank you for your continued confidence and ongoing trust. We are grateful for you!

Is Five Star Senior Living Open To Visitors

As we begin our reopening, pure bliss describes the experience of reuniting with each other. With residents and families in mind, our goal at Five Star is to reopen as much and as safely as possible.

We are diligent in our efforts to keep the virus at bay so we can continue to move forward with our phased reopening.

And as long as were not conducting community-wide testing, two guests at a time are invited to book visits with their loved one. We know that our residents will enjoy the love and attention.

Pueblo Norte Senior Living Thanksgiving In The Desert

Coral Oaks Independent Living

While many families gather inside around the dining table for Thanksgiving, at Pueblo Norte Senior Living, the setting is as breathtaking as it gets. For 29 years, Pueblo Norte team members have helped transport senior living residents and cooked turkey into the desert a week before Thanksgiving for a meal with a spectacular backdrop: the rugged and beautiful White Tank Mountains. This year, 40 residents attended and enjoyed a fantastic feast and amazing views all while seated next to neighbors and team members-turned-family. I’ve done this before and I love it because we’re outdoors, there’s no wind, there’s sunshine and there’s wonderful people, says resident Carol Galts.

The Remington Club Gold Coin Treasure Hunt

When a new Thanksgiving activity becomes so popular that residents request that it returns for Christmas, you know youve struck gold on a new holiday tradition. The Remington Club Lifestyle 360 Director John Cedres says the Gold Coin Treasure Hunt started to give residents staying in the senior living community for Thanksgiving a fun incentive to go outside and be active. For the treasure hunt, clues are hidden throughout Remington Clubs gorgeous community of palm trees, pools and mountain views, the last clue of which leads to a gold coin.

For residents who completed The Remington Clubs Know Your Phone technology class, there are also several bonus clues incorporating QR codes. Residents who find the gold coin can then take it to the treasure chest for a gift which Cedres tries to customize for each resident. He says the hunt, which started just last year, has been such a huge hit that he plans on making it a new tradition for other holidays, too. Its music to my ears when people ask about traditions and anticipate them, he says.
