Our family had an in person tour with this community and it was a really nice tour experience
Emily Green Shores is a great facility and it is definitely a family type atmosphere. The care here is great and the staff members are very attentive. My dad said it felt like home and we really appreciate them. It also sits on the water so it is a beautiful view of the Elizabeth river and City Park. I would absolutely recommend to others looking.
At first was a really nice place for mom then as time went on I saw the building going down employee’s leaving. I notice all these things. So I had to put mom some where else
It was not fancy at all, in fact, it was kind of threadbare but it was homey and friendly. It was an older facility and it was one with shared bathrooms, but with the way the rooms were located it was like a cluster around them. It was real comfortable and the people were real friendly, they had a lot of activities planned and in fact, the day we were there they brought someone in to do the ladies nails.

My father lives at Emily Green Shores. They have a hair salon, a library, a nice living room, and they just got a new kitchen. They also have areas to walk around the grounds which is nice on visits.

A Portsmouth Virginia Senior Care Residency
Emily Green Shores is a faith-based senior assisted living facility owned by the Portsmouth Baptist Association and located in Portsmouth, Virginia. Our facility rests on the Elizabeth River waterfront offering beautiful sunset views from our spacious sunroom facing the water. Emily Green Shores is much like home a comfortable family setting where you can read a book in the living room, enjoy watching the boats on the waterfront from the porch, play cards after supper with your neighbors, and know that each day will be filled with caring hands and friendly, familiar faces.
Emily Green Shores began in 1913 in Court Street Baptist Church as a meeting organized by five Portsmouth women who recognized the need of senior adult women to have a comfortable secure place to call “home”. On June 17, 1915, the Home opened on Emmett Street in a residence formerly occupied as a hospital. For more than 30 years the late Mrs. Emily Green served as Chairman of the Board and after her death, the Home was renamed in her honor. In 1962, residents moved from the former location into the modern, brick residence on the riverfront at 500 Westmoreland Terrace, donated by the late Jerome Carr.
Our assisted living residency is an ambulatory-only facility meaning our residents have the means to be able to move about on their own and reasonably facilitate their own activities of daily living.

Who We Are
Emily Green Shores is an assisted and independent living facility that has been in operation for thirty years. The facility overlooks the Elizabeth River and Portsmouth City Park. Emily Green is affiliated with the Portsmouth Baptist Association and offers an environment where religious expression is honored and encouraged. The average occupancy rate is 100 percent and the waiting list averages one or two months. There is no fee for the waiting list, only a fifty dollar non-refundable application fee. While most residents of Emily Green are independent, the following services are offered:- Dining Room:Meals are offered 3 times daily and a snack is served in the evening.- Maintenance: Building and grounds staff are on call 24-hours a day.- Housekeeping: Resident rooms are cleaned weekly.- Laundry: Linens are provided and personal laundry is done weekly, or as needed, for no additional charge.- Activities: A variety of activities are offered daily.- Nursing: Nursing staff is present 24 hours a day to provide medication administration, treatments or dressings, bowel and bladder assistance, emergency care, restorative care, bathing and dressing assistance. Other available amenities include: Banking, beauty salon, transportation.
