How Much Does Assisted Living Cost In San Antonio

Grandview of Westover Hills

The average monthly cost of assisted living in San Antonio is $3,975 according to the Genworth Cost of Care Calculator.

The cost will be just as important in your decision-making process as the services and amenities available in assisted living. At Seniorly, we offer a comprehensive rundown here of costs and pricing figures you can expect to encounter as you and your loved ones compare various properties. For example, think about these basic pricing terms that come into play:

  • Community Fee: This type of fee is charged at most assisted living facilities and typically covers the costs associated with residents moving in.
  • All-Inclusive Pricing: As you compare prices, youâll find that all-inclusive pricing offers a straightforward cost analysis because it comprises one rental fee to cover all monthly expenses as a resident of the community.
  • Monthly Rent plus Care Fees: The opposite of all-inclusive, this type of pricing shows you a monthly rate up front that will appear lower, but could cost you more in the long run. That occurs because the community separates traditional room-and-board costs from extra care fees to cover services and amenities used by you as a resident.

Keep in mind that costs are also determined by local economic factors. The national median cost for assisted living per month was $3,628 in 2017. The statewide average for California is above the national median, coming in around $4,000 per month.

Whats The Difference Between Assisted Living Vs Other Senior Care Types

The difference between assisted living and other types of senior care is that assisted livingsits between independent living and skilled nursing facilities, sometimes called nursing homes.

The first necessity in making a transition to assisted living is to get a multi-part evaluation from a physician and the staff of the prospective community. It will determine both medical needs and the kind of support for daily living tasks that will be necessary.

As you go through this process, remember that assisted living communities are not the only option for you or your loved one. Other options that might suit varying levels of need can include:

  • Independent living communities, for those who want to downsize but don’t need help with ADLs.
  • Continuing retirement care, combined facilities that offer a range of services from independent living through all grades of assisted living and more, for those who may need access to multiple forms of support as they age.
  • In-home care, for those who don’t want to leave home and whose personal and medical care needs could be met by visiting in-home care workers and family caregivers.
  • Hospice and respite care, for those who may have a terminal illness and related conditions that need intensive medical support.

It will be important to understand pricing and knowing what kind of solution you and your loved ones can afford. You can find a detailed guide to understanding the costs of assisted living here.

Our families experience has been excellent so far – we would give it 10 stars our of 5. We really like the fact that they are pet friendly so our loved one was able to bring her cat. Most of the staff members are very friendly, the cleanliness is good but sometimes our loved one wets herself so we do wish they would do a rinse off more often but we do understand they get busy and have to take turns. Our loved one is gaining weight so we assume the meals are very good there, she is doing 100% better at Grandview. … Read more

‘I feel very helpless’ Residents scramble to find new homes after state orders shutdown of assisted

Once you’ve decided on an assisted living community near you in San Antonio, the next step is downsizing and preparing for the actual move. A few useful tips to follow:

  • Start packing early, ideally at least a month before the move. This will save the stress and pressure of last-minute rushing.
  • Ask for help from friends and family members who are locally available. If such options aren’t available, getting assistance from professional movers should be factored into the cost of transition.
  • Come up with a plan to tackle the move room-by-room to ensure that everything stays organized in transit and is easy to find at the other end.
  • Donate unwanted items to charity or have a yard sale to lighten the load.

If you’re involving professional movers, choose them carefully. Make sure they have the proper accreditation for moving in Texas, and they provide an on-site quote with a detailed breakdown that gives a price by weight.

You can also consult with the National Association of Senior Move Managers to help put you in touch with movers who specialize in this kind of transition.

Reviews For Grandview Of Westover Hills

We thought the facility at Grandview of Westover was very nice looking. The staff was helpful. But their virtual tour wasnt as personalized – it was just pre-recorded videos instead of an actual person walking us around. We also had a unique situation with multiple pets that was hard to find an accommodation for.

Our family had an in person tour and we liked the tour, the lady on the marketing team was wonderful even before the tour. She gave us insight over the phone to help calm us, and take away any stress. She was very helpful and very supportive. However, we just did not see a lot of staff out and about which was a little concerning.

Other Financial Assistance Programs For Assisted Living

Community First Choice

The CFC option is a Medicaid program that is designed to prevent seniors who are living in their homes or in assisted living facilities from becoming further institutionalized in a nursing home as the need for care increases. This program provides basic assisted living services to seniors who without daily support would require a nursing level of care. This program provides access to self-directed care, which means that participants have more flexibility when it comes to choosing who provides their care.

The CFC option is an entitlement program, which means that eligibility requirements are less stringent and there is no cap on the number of seniors who may apply. To be eligible for this program, seniors must be 65 years of age or older, require daily support and meet the financial requirements of the state Medicaid program. For more information on eligibility and how to apply, seniors can contact the state Medicaid office at 1-866-566-8989.

Community Care for the Aged and Disabled

The CCAD program is a state-run, non-Medicaid program that provides care services to seniors who wish to avoid moving into a nursing home. Seniors may receive care under this program in their home or within an assisted living facility. Assisted living residents who participate in this program are eligible to receive coverage for the cost of services.
