Tucked away in Otay Ranch, a quiet and scenic neighborhood in Chula Vista just south of San Diego, our community is outfitted with the latest amenities and technology to maximize the quality of life for our senior residents. Before breaking ground in 2015, we asked seniors and their families across San Diego to contribute their input on what theyd like to see in their ideal senior care community. We then went to work implementing this input in our design of St. Pauls Plaza.

The result is a modern senior care community built to address the needs of its residents at every level. When Should I Consider Memory Care For My Loved One

Is your loved one struggling with Dementia or Alzheimers?

Among the most common and debilitating health issues that affect seniors are memory-related conditions such as Alzheimers Disease and other forms of dementia.

We loved this place , they just did not have a pool. They had a spa tub and said that they would let her go there to take her weekly bath. But my loved one really likes water aerobics and being in the pool and they did not have that. The location was also too far everyone was wonderful and really sweet.

Very impressed with the sale rep and the facility. Felt welcomed and like it could be a great place for mom. The location is a little farther south than wanted. But still a great place.

We chose Sienna at Otay Ranch because they were very cooperative and reached out to me quickly. They provided information up front and answered everything I needed to know, it was a very smooth transition. They put out weekly newsletters to keep families informed of what was going on. The staff were always overly kind to me and the service was great. They were very attentive to my wife and it made all the difference. I would recommend them to others looking.

They have been very hard to communicate with and really understand what is going on and we are just not sure if its because of covid or not.

Were speaking with WDA senior living interior designer Karyn Jacobs about a successful project recently completed near San Diego, California. In a few questions, she walks us through the project and the senior living interior design strategy behind it. Check out our interview and photos below!

Give us a high-level overview of the project.

Sienna at Otay Ranch provides Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Respite Care options in Chula Vista, California which is just south of San Diego. Its a new build, and the first senior living project for Douglas Wilson Companies, so one of our main goals was to guide DWC through the design and programming of senior living facilities through WDAs 27 years of experience. Its exciting to see that theyre now working to secure land for a few more upcoming buildings! Milestone Retirement, the other owner , has communities across the country and they encourage communities to operate independently with their residents and local culture in mind. Geography and culture always play a prominent role in our design strategy, so from the start that was a natural fit when Caitlyn Webb and I worked on this project.

Welltower Forms Expanded Jv With Oakmont As Operator Launches New Brand

Welltower is growing its relationship with Oakmont Management Group in an arrangement that will grow the companies existing portfolio and facilitate the launch of a new brand called Ivy Living.

The Toledo, Ohio-based real estate investment trust on Thursday announced it is acquiring an undisclosed number of management contracts that are expected to roughly double the size of Welltower and Oakmonts existing portfolio by the end of the third quarter in affluent markets across California.

Welltowers current Oakmont portfolio consists of nine assisted living and memory care communities.

Though a representative for Welltower did not elaborate on the new arrangement when reached by Senior Housing News Thursday, the REIT did publicly share details of a recent acquisition involving the two companies.

Oakmont and Welltower together bought Ivy Park at Otay Ranch, an assisted living and memory care community in San Diego, California. That community will be operated under a new Oakmont brand, Ivy Living, which builds upon decades of operational excellence providing Oakmont the flexibility to pursue opportunities that have a different built environment, according to Welltower.

The pro rata purchase price for Otay Ranch was $35 million, according to Welltowers Q2 2021 earnings announcement, released Thursday.
