Construction is progressing quickly on a new senior care community in Old Town.

Sunrise Senior Living broke ground on its new facility at the intersection of North Washington and Princess streets early this year. The McLean-based company is building a 93-room assisted living community.

The architect for the new complex is Rust | Orling Architecture, which has an office on Cameron Street in Alexandria.

Sunrise Senior Living, in a statement on its Alexandria community website, said, “Within our building, our exceptional caregivers will provide highly personalized assisted living and memory care services. Residents can enjoy the propertys beautiful gardens, outdoor porches, and walking paths all designed to offer opportunities to enjoy fresh air and nature throughout the day.”

According to the community’s description, the new Sunrise Senior Living will provide personalized, assisted living and memory care services. There will be activities programs, outdoor space and meals made from scratch. The community will be pet-friendly.

Sunrise Senior Living said the opening is projected for March 2021, about 18 months from now, but the facility is accepting inquiries from families and interested residents.
